Taxis from Corfu Airport for
Independent Travellers
At the airport there are always taxis available for hire.
Make sure you tell the driver you want to go to Agios Georgios NORTH as
there is another one in the south of the island (not an uncommon mistake).
The charge to Agios Georgios north for 2011 was about
50-55 Euros (one-way) if booked locally or through the family firm
mentioned below . Maximum passengers: 4 adults with luggage. (Beware if
hiring casually on arrival at the airport as instances of gross over-charging
...up to 80 euros...have been reported ). Ask the taxi driver first for his
price.
For security it is suggested you book the taxi
before travelling and you will be met at the airport Arrivals gate by your
taxi driver showing your name on a card. This can be arranged by the hotel or
apartment owners using proven local firms (providing flight details are
telephoned through a few days before you travel).
It is therefore recommended you contact your
accommodation owners and ask them to arrange a taxi for you.
INTERNET COMPANIES: Beware
if pre-booking on the Internet with a company you do not know ! Some
world-wide companies which come out very high in (sponsored) Search Engine
results quote about 85 euros (2011) for the journey !!! Most
people would rather pay the 50-55 euros quoted above and save over 60
euros on a return trip, so BOOK LOCALLY
If you wish to book the taxi
yourself one often used by local hotels, and the web site owner, are local
taxi drivers, George Rouvas, and his sons Vasilis and Vagellis, who can
be contacted on 26630 96419 or Mobile 6944 328254 (preceded by International
Code). Contacting Greece
Note: A young couple on their
first visit to Corfu recently booked with George from the UK (following the
notes on these pages) and in their words found it "a breeze". His son Vasilis
was waiting for them at the airport and gave them a lovely guided tour on the
way to the resort. They were very impressed. |
